A letter from AJ
Hello;
Welcome to this site! I’m honored to have the excellent help of so many dedicated and knowledgable people who really have made this space possible.
The “IPledgeAmrica” movement started in December of 2008 as a way to bring attention to the outstanding men and women; and the products they build, of the Detroit automobile industry, which affects all of us; particularily here in the midwest. The story behind why I, as a small cafe operator came to be a part of this movement are well documented. I have no true affilliation with any auto company. But at its essence, I’m just as vested in the success, or not of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler as anyone.
I started a pledge: “IPledgeAmerica.” It states, “On my honor, the next car that I buy will be a domestic 3, Detroit-born Ford, GM, or Chrysler.”
Our Guinness World Record, 288 hour non-stop musical marathon, “Assembly Line Concert” held last year in my cafe gave us an oppurtunity to highlight the awareness of our industry. That awareness has continued and will culminate with our “Assembly Line II; Second Shift Concert” From March 19-31, 2010. we’re going to attempt to break our own world record for concert logevity as we again bring “iPledgeAmerica” to the nation.
Some of the many, many responses we’ve recieved is this one from Jeff:
“Thanks for sharing, AJ. You’ll be more pleased than anybody to hear we just traded in our Honda Accord for a Saturn Aura. .. Glad to be on the list”.
We need this sentiment to become a national movement. Nothing against anyone or any car but frankly, I find that over half of all cars being driven on our American roads to be of non-domestic origin a totally unacceptable reality.
The detroit auto makers produce the best, most economic, most ergonomic vehicles available today! Lets do our part to move forward and to become a solution to our national economic challenge by taking the “IPledgeAmerica” vow!
By all means, use this blog forum to share your positive stories!
I’ll see you “on the Line”
Most warmly yours,
AJ
